Week commencing 23rd April 2025!
This half term, we are starting a new topic of 'People That Help Us'. This week, we have concentrated on people who help us at home. The children have painted pictures of people from home as well as practising laying the table with plates, cutlery and cups. Hopefully they can start to help at home too! They have also enjoyed pretending to be hairdressers and doing each other's hair, as well as practising on dummy heads.
We have read a story about a bin man and how he is passionate about recycling. The children have ordered the story and written about it. They loved using the story sack to help support their learning.
In Maths, the children have been practising counting and sharing objects between people as an early start to division. They did really well with understanding that every plate needed the same amount of food as each other.



Week commencing 7th April 2025!
This week for Maths, we have been learning about the composition of shapes. The children have used shapes to create other shapes, as well as to try and make pictures using them.
In English, we have been reading The Shopping Expedition. The children have been rewriting the story to help practise sounding out the words and letter formation.
The children have been developing their fine motor skills too by trying to sew.


Week commencing 31st March 2025!
This week, we have had our Transport Enrichment Day. It was an exciting day as we discussed where we might like to go on holiday and how to get there, as well as what we might need to pack. The children attempted to fold up clothes and pack a suitcase and they made passports. They pretended to go to a train station and then to an airport. At the airport, they had their passports stamped, collected their boarding passes, had their luggage checked, went through the metal detectors and then boarded the plane. They enjoyed watching the plane take off and land using pilot point of view videos.



Week commencing 24th March 2025!
In The Nest, we have been practising counting objects and our fine motor skills by counting pegs and placing them into apples like pips.
We have also been developing our map reading skills and managed to find many different locations when asked.


Week commencing 17th March 2025!
This week, we painted under the sea paintings. We used biscuits for the sand, painted the sea with a brush, handprinted the seaweed and fingerprinted the fish.
In English, we used a sensory story call The School Trip. We got to smell coffee (which we didn't like!) and roses. We took photos but the camera squirted water at us!
In Maths, we created patterns and continued to learn numbers.
Week commencing 10th March 2025!
This week in The Nest, we have been reading The Journey Home From Grandpa's. We have used a story sack to retell the story using toys of the vehicles and sang along to the text.
We have continued to explore our transport topic, which has resulted in the children choosing to make their own runways. We discussed going through the tunnels on the underground and how it makes us feel when it is dark - most of us were scared!
In Maths, we have identified numbers to 6 and explored number bonds to 5 and 10.



Week commencing 3rd March 2025!
This week it was Pancake Day. The children made their own pancakes and ate them for snack.
They continued working on their topic of transport by learning how to cross the road safely using a zebra crossing.
In Maths, the children were learning to count using one to one correspondence, as well as using cubes to measure the weight of small objects.
In English, they read the story How to Catch a Star. They enjoyed being immersed in this story with the lights off and galaxies being projected above them.


Week commencing 24th February 2025!
In Maths, the children were measuring the length of objects and ordering things based upon size.
In English, the children read Mrs Armitage on Wheels. They enjoyed using the props to retell the story and when Mrs Armitage crashed her bike.
We have started a new topic based upon transport. The children loved having their feet painted and walking all over the paper because it tickled.


Week commencing 10th February 2025!
The children have continued to read The Gingerbread man. They have enjoyed using props to retell the story and learning the Makaton sign for Gingerbread Man.
They have made a banana loaf this week by measuring all of the ingredients, mixing them together and baking. It was very tasty! They were very good with reading the recipe to work out what to do.
This week, the children have been learning about 1 less and have practised counting and taking away one.
Their core word of the week is 'more'. They have been using it to try and get more food at snack time!


Week commencing 3rd February 2025!
The children have started to look at The Gingerbread Man in English. They improved their fine motor skills by tracing the Gingerbread Man's journey and they created a wanted poster of the fox. They wrote 'The fox is orange.'
Their core word of the week is 'it'. The children have learnt how to sign it and have started to use the sign in their communication.


Week commencing 27th January 2025!
This week, we have continued to explore Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have made their own masks to act out the story and made their own porridge.
Their word of the week this week has been 'help'. They have learnt how to sign it in Makaton and some children are beginning to use it in sentences to ask for help.
Week commencing 20th January 2025!
We have started to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have enjoyed exploring the story using their senses, especially the porridge! They have sequenced the story, as well as writing it.
The children have also worked hard with identifying shapes and their properties. They liked making their own shape pizzas and counting the different shapes that they used.
They also learnt how to use the toaster to make their own toast, as well as using a knife to spread butter on it. The best part was eating it afterwards!
Week commencing 13th January 2025!
This week, we have learnt how to use a grater to help us make our own pizzas. We got to dress up and wear our aprons to look like chefs and then we learnt how to spread tomato puree onto our wraps. Afterwards, we used the grater to grate the cheese and sprinkled it onto our wraps. The adults in the room helped to cook them. We then ate them for our afternoon snack.



Week commencing 6th January 2025!
This week, we have explored 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt and we went on a real bear hunt adventure around our hall. We splashed sploshed through the deep, cold river and we stumble tripped through the big, dark forest until we found a bear in its cave!
The children have also made their own playdough by scooping, counting and mixing their ingredients together ready to explore maths with it next week.
