Week commencing 10th July 2023!

On Friday the children enjoyed their themed 'funfair' day. The children enjoyed learning about the value of money and paying to participate in different stalls which included coconut shy, tin can alley, pin the fin of the fish and hook a duck. The children made posters for each stall as they learned about the rules of each game. They enjoyed receiving tokens and trading them in at the end of the day for prizes. The children also enjoyed making their own hats and decorating doughnuts with icing and sprinkles. 

Week commencing 3rd July 2023!

This week we have been looking at the story of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. We have been retelling the story and creating our own lighthouses. We have used adjectives to describe different settings. 

Week commencing 19th June 2023!

On Wednesday we enjoyed our science day. We carried out our own experiments and enjoyed participating in an assembly with the mad scientists. We were busy making our own playdough, creating unicorn fizz, making bubbles, experimenting to see how fast we can make the cars go on the different ramps, creating our own paper aeroplanes and having a race using paper fish. 

Week commencing 12th June 2023!

This week we have been exploring our new topic 'Splash'. We have been looking at different sea life creatures and making our own submarine from Poddley. We have been reading the story 'Tiddler' in Literacy and recalling the events in the story. In Maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers and exploring the pattern in the number system. 

Week commencing 2nd May 2023!

This week we have enjoyed exploring the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. We made our very own beanstalk outside and have been busy retelling the story. We have planted our own bean seeds in greenhouse windows and we are looking forward to watching them grow. We have also written our own instructions to grow a beanstalk. 

Week commencing 24th April 2023!

This week we have continued to explore the story of 'The Enormous Turnip'. We have been innovating the story by changing the vegetable and a few characters. We have enjoyed having our own allotment outside and have been busy developing our motor skills by digging and planting the pretend vegetables. In Maths, we have compared the weight of the different vegetables. 

Week commencing 17th April 2023!

This week we have been enjoying our new topic 'growing'. We have explored the different things that grow, including plants, fruit and vegetables. We have been great story tellers and have learned all about the story of 'The Enormous Turnip'. In Maths we have been looking at teen numbers and using tens frames and Numicon to represent the numbers. 

Week commencing 20th March 2023!

This week we have been looking at the story Bumpus Jumpus Dinosuarumpus in Literacy. The children have loved exploring dinosaurs and finding out what they eat. We have been busy making our own dinosaur claws. In Maths we have been looking at clocks and learning how to tell the time. The children have worked really hard and were able to tell the time for o'clock and half past. We have continued to learn about our out topic 'explorers' where we have been on bug hunts and we have been pretending to go camping in our role play area. The children have created some great storylines to add to support their play. 

Week commencing 13th March 2023!

This week we have been exploring where we live. We have looked at the map of the united Kingdom to find out where we live as well as exploring the globe. We have looked at different landmarks in England and listened to the national anthem. 

Week commencing 6th March 2023!

This week we have explored the story of 'The Gruffalo'. In Literacy we have made our own story maps and wrote captions and sentences. We have been busy making our own Gruffalo crumble, retelling the story to our friends and we have painted some lovely pictures of the Gruffalo using watercolour paints. We have used some great adjectives to describe the Gruffalo. 

Week commencing 27th February 2023!

The children were very excited to go on our school trip to Thorndon Country Park. We went on our own bear hunt based on the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and made the made the bear a den. We explored the forest and found lots of Gruffalo characters. The children had lots of fun making prints on material using the natural dye from the leaves.

Week commencing 6th February 2023

This week we have continued to look at the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The children have taken on the role of a woodcutter and have been using the bricks and play axes to cut down the tress. We have also made some flowers for Little Red Riding Hood to pick in the forest. The children have enjoyed being hairdressers and beauticians. 

Week commencing 30th January 2023

This week we have been focussing on Little Red Riding Hood this week. The children have made get well soon cards for Grandma and have practised their mark making in chalk.

Week commencing 16th January 2023

This week we have been looking at the story of 'The Billy Goats Gruff'. We have been building bridges and exploring how to make the strongest one for the goats to cross. 

The children have enjoyed playing in our garden centre and have been busy serving each other. 

During the week we were excited to find ice in our garden and we discussed where how ice is formed. We had a go at making our own ice and then had lots of fun exploring the ice. 

Week commencing 9th January 2023

This week we have continued to look at the job of a farmer. We have been busy milkiing cows and shearing the sheep. The children have become very good storytellers and retold the story of The Little Red Hen to their parents during our first story time session. Please find your child's class video on Tapestry.  

Week commencing 2nd January 2023

This week we have been learning about the story of 'The Little Red Hen' and have been learning t retell it using our own actions. We have been busy creating our own story maps and making our own hens from paper plates. We have been looking at the role of a farmer and created a tractor out of our large construction pieces. 

Week commencing 28th November 2022

This week we have been continuing our exploration of Burglar Bill. We've gone on scavenger hunts to find the evidence, sent the criminals to jail and played number games.

Week commencing 21st November 2022

This week we have been looking at the story 'The Jolly Postman' and explored different events in the story. We have looked at the different houses the postman visits and have been retelling the story. We have acted out the scene when The Jolly Postman visits Jack and Beanstalk, the Gingerbread house and we have been busy making witches' potions and our own gingerbread houses using ginger play dough. In Maths we have been looking at patterns and creating a repeating pattern using the postman's bicycle. 

Week commencing 14th November 2022

This week we enjoyed our trip to the Libray. The children sat beautifully and listened to the Librarian. We read a story together and followed along with our own book. We loved finding out what happened in the story 'We're Going on a Monster Hunt'. We were all every excited to take our own copy home to share with our parents.

Week commencing 7th November 2022

Reception had a visit form the firefighter this week. They were excited to be able to use the hose and spray water at targets. They learnt how the fire engine works and what happens when the firefighters have to go out to calls.

Week commencing 17th October 2022

Today the children have enjoyed their enrichment day. The dressed up as who they wanted to be when they are older. Each key group researched a different profession, such as police and doctors and have been busy taking on the roles. They then created key elements to the profession and showcased their creations in assembly.

Week commencing 10th October 2022

This week we have had a few visitors. On Monday we were visited by Rev. Barlow where we learned about Harvest festival. We have been learning the song 'Cauliflowers fluffy' and enjoyed singing it in our assembly. On Friday the dental nurses came in to speak to us about how to look after our teeth. In class we have been exploring the book 'Funnybones' and identify parts of our body and how to look after them. 

Week commencing 26th September 2022

This week the children have helped collect conkers from our tree and used these to show number composition. They have also looked at directions and used this with the train track. The children practised their phonic knowledge by finding the correct letters to make the given green words.

Week commencing 19th September 2022

In Literacy we have been exploring the book 'Starting School' and comparing our school routine. We spoke about our school routine and drew a routine map. Outside we have enjoyed hosting our own cinema. We have served food and drinks form our drink machine, made and sold tickets and performed our own shows. 

Week commencing 12th September 2022

This week we have spent lots of time in our classes getting to know each other. We have been busy painting portraits of ourselves and exploring how we are all different. The children have enjoyed playing with the farm, fire station and exploring initial sounds in the environment. 

Week commencing 5th September 2022

We are very proud of how well the Reception children have settled into school this week. We have spent lots of time in our key groups exploring the different areas inside our classroom and in the garden. We have been busy making new friends and finding out lots about each other. We have particularly enjoyed playing with the dinosaurs in the outside area.
