3SB
Week commencing 10th July 2023!
This week in 3SB, we have been learning about the dangers as well as the benefits of sunlight and how we can keep ourselves safe this summer. We now know that the sun can hurt all of us, and one way to prevent this is by wearing sun cream, sun glasses and hats when we go out in the sun, and remembering to try to avoid being outside between 12pm & 3pm when the sun is hottest. We are now all experts at keeping sun safe, ready for summer in a week!
Week commencing 3rd July 2023!
This week in year 3, our new writing topic is Pigeon: Impossible. It is all about a secret agent and a pigeon who gets up to no good and ruins the secret mission... All because of a bagel!
We took time this week to write an apology email from the secret agent, saying sorry for the damage caused and the disruption to the mission. We had a lot of fun imagining ourselves as agents and we look forward to our big write next week!
Week commencing 9th May 2023!
This week, in 3SB, we have been writing our own diary entries as if we were Tuffy - the main (cat) character from The Diary of a Killer Cat. We have had so much fun writing as if we were the cheeky, sarcastic tabby cat, and have really captured his personality within our work. We look forward to finishing it tomorrow!
Week commencing 17th April 2023!
This week in 3SB, we have moved onto our new science topic - plants!
To kick off the topic, we dissected some beautiful tulips and labelled each part that we could recognise. We are now able to describe the function of each part of a plant!
Week commencing 20th March 2023!
This week in year 3, we created our very own fossils! We mixed flour, salt, water and coffee to make a big mixture which we then shaped into our own fossils. All of our children can talk us through the process of how fossils are made, and they created a beautiful piece of writing to go alongside this scientific experiment.
Week commencing 6th March 2023!
In 3SB this week, we created story boxes, attempting to create our own Stone Age settlement. We have looked at the features of a Stone Age settlement, which include circular houses (which contain 2 beds, a cupboards and a fire pit), a shared area, a farm and sometimes a morgue/ritual area. We tried our very best to include all these details in our own, tiny versions. We're looking forward to completing these later on.
Week commencing 27th February 2023!
This week in 3SB, we had SO MUCH FUN celebrating World Book Day on the 2nd March. We all dressed up as our favourite characters from our favourite books - we had many Willy Wonkas, Harry Potters and a Mary Poppins or two!
In the afternoon, we swapped half our class with children from 1GR, and year 3's read aloud to year 1's.
Week commencing 6th February 2023
This week in 3SB, we had our enrichment day on volcanoes and earthquakes. For one of our activities, we created structures from marshmallows and toothpicks with the intent of them withstanding an "earthquake" (our jelly wobbling). We had so much fun at the end of the day as well, when we created coke and mentos volcanoes and watched them explode!
Week commencing 30th January 2023
We can't believe how quickly January has zoomed by!
In 3SB this week, we completed our experiment in science. We tested out rocks and how easily eroded by certain things they were. We had so much fun (even if the whole room smelled like vinegar afterwards)! Not only this, but we finished off our pneumatic toys, ready to take home and show off to family.
Week commencing 9th January 2023
Last week in 3SB, we investigated different rocks and their rock types. We then wrote about the different rock types - Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary. We really enjoyed being rock scientists (petrologists) and we can't wait to learn more about this topic!
Week commencing 2nd January 2023
Happy New Year!
This week, Year 3 has been treated to not one, but TWO awesome workshops based on our science topic - rocks and soil. Our first workshop was about rocks, which we loved using our 3-D glasses for. Our second workshop was all about fossils! We are looking forward to learning more about this subject as we move into the new term.
Week commencing 12th December 2022
We've had so much fun this week in 3SB!
Gearing up for the winter break, we were going to go to the church - but as we all know, the snow stopped that! However, Rev. Barlow was kind enough to come in and visit us instead, and we were able to show off our singing skills!
Today was our class disco in the hall. We had a foam machine and lots of dancing.
I look forward to seeing everyone's refreshed faces when we all return in January!
Week commencing 5th December 2022
This week in year 3 Christmas has started. Our hoop went up, we have practised our songs for the church and our singing performance on Monday and Tuesday.
We are looking forward to performing for everyone next week :)
Week commencing 28th November 2022
This week in 3SB, we have been finishing off our topic of Kenya in geography, and we have completed our clay masks (which most parents would have probably seen by now). We have learnt so much about Kenya this term that we are almost experts! I have been really impressed with our knowledge as well as our home research, so well done 3SB!
Week commencing 21st November 2022
This week in 3SB, we were weather forecasters! In geography, we looked at weather patterns in Nairobi and London and compared the two. After we completed this, we put together a broadcast for a chosen city and performed them to the class.
Week commencing 14th November 2022
The children were so excited this week when we were able to design their own African mask in the style of Picasso. We created our own background from watercolours, mixing to make a gradient of one or two colours. Then we printed our African mask designs on top with black poster paint. We've produced some fantastic prints!
7th November 2022
This week in 3SB, we have been learning about Kenya. Specifically, we have been looking at physical and human geography. It is clear we have a few ken geographers among us in 3SB, as many children were able to split our key pictures into the two groups of human and physical geography without being given the category names! We produced a great piece of work describing the similarities and differences between Kenya and England which included human and physical geographical facts.
Week commencing 31st October 2022
In 3SB this week, we have been excited to return after a restful week off. We were looking forward to start our new Guided Reading book as well this week, which is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (who was our school's author of the month last month). We have redesigned the cover of the book and have begun asking and answering key questions about the text. We anticipate the rest of the story and can't wait to get into the fun parts!
Week commencing 10th October 2022
This week in 3SB, we visited the Horniman museum to explore more about our science topic, as well as getting ourselves ready for our upcoming geography topic as well! The kids loved their time in the museum and really showed other schools and adults how brilliant QHA children are. We are so proud of how great the children were, and glad that they all had a fun time being scientists in the workshop!
Week commencing 3rd October 2022
In 3SB this week, we have had our history hats on in order to put ourselves in the mindset of the pioneers of the Windrush voyage in 1948. The children have produced some beautiful diary entries, writing back to their child selves and discussing the impact Caribbean culture has has on British culture and how embedded black culture is in our modern society. We look forward to celebrating Black History Month some more and can't wait for the next time we can put our history hats on!
Week commencing 26th September 2002
This week has been a great one for 3SB, especially in science! We have moved on from nutrition to now looking at how our bodies work. Today, we put Skelly (Miss Black's nervous skeleton friend) back together after they had fallen apart. We have a few budding orthopaedic doctors in our midst from the speed some of us put Skelly back together.
Week commencing 19th September 2022
In 3SB this week, we have been looking deeper into our science topic; Animals including humans.
Today, we completed a Decisions Decisions in pairs, classifying animals into their classes (mammal, reptile, amphibian, bird, fish). From this, we moved onto classifying animals and insects into two lists of skeleton/no skeleton. We were so excited to share our knowledge of the skeleton and we all now know that it is an important thing that keeps us upright, stable and protected.
Week commencing 12th September 2022
In year 3 this week, we have been innovating the story of Jack and the beanstalk. In our stories, our main character, Billy, climbs up an enormous sunflower and finds something scary at the top...
We've really enjoyed our first piece of writing and exploring different techniques, and we look forward to embedding the use of these techniques as we move on throughout our year!
Week commencing 5th September 2022
This week in 3SB we have been so excited to get to know the children and to establish our routines as a class. The children have settled in nicely and have been busy at work getting to know their class rules - Be kind, Be responsible, Be your best.
In English, our story is Jack and the Beanstalk, and we have been working on developing vocabulary to describe certain characters. As well as this, we have been planning out very own innovated version of the traditional tale, which we look forward to writing next week.
