We had a fantastic week and lots of fun during Science week.

We had a competition within class to see who could grow the tallest cress, created data based on the growth of children through the school before displaying it into an 'Art Attack' style bar chart, tried to create slime, and see who could grow theirs the longest by adding in extra chemicals and we also looked at the growth and spread of germs, seeing how many people we can into close contact with during a short spell.

3GR went on their local area walk this week, taking in the sights of Grays.

We looked at the local area, taking a map layout of older than 100 years old and compared how it has changed over the last 130 years as well as considering reasons for why those changes had happened.

Week Commencing 9th May 2022

3GR continued on with their science topic of ‘plants’

This week we looked at roots. We learnt about the different types of roots and which flowers has those roots.

Week Commencing 25th April 2022

We continued to increase our knowledge of maps in Geography this week.

We had time to explore atlases and discuss the features of the maps that help us to find out where places are. We shared our knowledge and showed how good at map reading we already are!

Week Commencing 22nd April 2022

The children enjoyed the start of their geography topic this week (Our Local Area). We looked at a variety of maps and their purpose before drawing our own sketch maps of the school. Our own Geography lead, Miss Weller, was extremely impressed!

Week Commencing 28th March 2022

We looked at our goals and targets for the rest of the year in PSHE this week. We had lots of fun exploring different targets, and setting our goals for the remaining months of Year 3! We worked in table groups, and wrote the different possible targets on post it notes before (gently) placing them on the stickman assigned to each table.

Week Commencing 21st March 2022

3GR were extremely excited to learn that a dragon had left their egg in year 3 over then weekend!

We want to keep it so much that we’re writing a letter to the mother dragon asking if we can keep it!

A Quarry Hill Dragon!!

Week Commencing 14th March 2022

The children are loving their soil investigations this half term!!

We ensured we conducted a fair test to discover which was the most permeable soil. The children set up their experiments using water, soils, funnels, measuring cylinders and filter paper.

Week Commencing 7th March 2022

This week in Science we had fun investigating different soils. We used our results from our investigation to decide whether the soil we were testing was clay, loam or sand.

A big well done to our Star of the Week too!

Week Commencing 28th February 2022

We studied the different layers of soil in Science this week. Learning about the different layers, before creating our own edible soils in clear cups. (Yes we ate them afterwards!)

A huge well done to our fantastic star of the week too!

Week Commencing 21st February 2022

We mixed things up in English and incorporated music within our immersion lesson in order to give sounds to our story ‘The Stone Age Boy’

Week Commencing 7th February 2022

A busy week in year 3!
It started with Rev. Cathy who came to share with us, how and why Christians pray as we compared that with our knowledge on the prayer routines of other religions.

The week continued with our Stone Age to Iron Age Enrichment day workshop where the children explored various artefacts, went on an archeological dig, made clay pots and attended warrior school!

Week Commencing 31st January 2022

3GR continued with making their pneumatic monsters as part of their DT project this week. They are coming along nicely!

Week Commencing 24th January 2022

3GR conducted a fun science experiment this week! We were investigating which rocks were igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic by testing their hardness and if they were permeable or not.

Week Commencing 17th January 2022

A standard Monday morning was thrown into chaos when we learnt aliens had landed! A foil covered room, along with the items inside it, followed by foil through the school (with green slime splattered in sections) allowed our imaginations to run wild, until the CCTV footage confirm it to be aliens. We incorporated this into our English topic this week, generating some amazing descriptive language and powerful verbs.

Week Commencing 10th January 2022

This week we have had a fun science lesson, exploring how rocks are formed using compression and heat - ask the children to describe some of the outcomes to you!

Star of the week was Arisha because of her constant hard work and how she always follows the core values!
Well done Arisha!

Week Commencing 4th October 2021

This week 3GR looked at other civilisations, along with Ancient Egypt, that we have been studying. We wrote down as many of the other civilisations as we could remember, and stuck them on a 'lucky' person from each table!

Week Commencing 27th September 2021

We have had a very busy week, but our highlight has to be History. We have been studying Ancient Egypt and this week we have been looking at mummification.  Did you know that the Egyptians used to bury their dead with their personal belongings, such as gold treasures and even their pets! Also, the more important the person was, the bigger the tomb (pyramid).

We had great fun mummifying one of our class friends. Just check out the photos to see how the process took place.

Please note, that no pupils, or indeed pets, were harmed as a result of our mummification lesson! In fact, our mummified friend got up and walked! ðŸ˜³ Not sure that that happened in ancient times!

Week Commencing 20th September 2021

In 3GR, we learnt about how and why the pyramids were created, before transferring our new knowledge onto paper pyramids we built.

We have learnt the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and started to plan our own stories. We also had lots of fun learning about the River Nile in our Ancient Egyptian topic too.
