Year 2 have really enjoyed Maths this week. We have been able to spend time outside, applying our mathematical skills. We used stopwatches to time how fast we could run and we measured how far we could throw a beanbag. From this, we then created a human bar chart and then drew our own. It was great to see the children engage with the different activities and how they used their teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Week Commencing 23rd May 2021
Year 2 had a fantastic enrichment day learning about significant people from the past. We loved seeing them in their costumes and want to thank parents for the efforts they made. The children really enjoyed finding out about who the adults were dressed up as and completed lots of engaging activities based on these people. We then had a wonderful afternoon, researching and creating fact files about their chosen person. The children learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed their day.
Week Commencing 10th May 2021
2MK have been very creative during art this week. They have created a piece of work inspired by Jackson Pollock, using a splatter technique. They used lolly sticks to create the effect and worked to find the best way to make the paint splatter evenly.
They are going to use this work as a background to then create a self-portrait collage next week. I'm looking forward to seeing their final piece of work.
Week Commencing 3rd May 2021
2MK have worked hard this week to solve the case of OfsTed! They have investigated fingerprints, footprints, handwriting and used a microscope to look closer at the evidence we have found. All week, the children have been identifying possible suspects and used the clues to narrow it down. We first thought it might have been Miss Goodsell, but her fingerprints were cleared so we now know she is innocent. After more evidence and CCTV footage the children in 2MK have strong suspicious of Mr Coyne and Mr Young. They have been questioning them and do not feel that they are telling the truth. We can't wait to find the culprit and get OfsTed back!
Week Commencing 26th April 2021
In Year 2 this week, we have been learning how to draw self-portraits. We followed step-by-step instructions and practised drawing our features in proportion. We had a really great lesson and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone demonstrated perseverance and continued to try again when their drawings didn’t quite go to plan.
Have a look at some of the fantastic self-portraits created!

This week 2MK have really enjoyed learning about the structure of a story. We have looked at the story mountain and discussed the opening, build up, problem, resolution and ending. They loved sorting familiar stories into the correct headings and realised that Julia Donaldson uses this to help her write her own stories. We looked the sequence of The Guffalo and are hoping she makes a new story soon.
We have started writing our own opening and build up and I am looking forward to reading their completed stories next week!
Well done 2MK!

We have had a busy week writing a letter to Julia Donaldson to persuade her to write a new story, practised addition and subtraction and learnt about the differences between a town and the countryside. In Science, we have been learning about habitats and we went outside to look for minibeasts. We looked in the long grass, soil, under logs and around the trees. We managed to find lots of ants, snails, slugs and woodlouse.

2MK really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this week. They all put in a lot of effort dressing up as their favourite book characters and looked fantastic. We had a great lesson looking at heroes and villains in a story and the children created their own supervillain, writing descriptions about their appearance, where they lived and what made them evil.
We would like to thank all children and parents in 2MK for all of their hard work and commitment to remote learning and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the classroom on Monday.

We have been learning about the best clues to include and how they should be ordered as we don't want to give away the answer in the first sentence. Have a look at some of the riddles below and see if you can solve them. Well done 2MK for another fantastic week of remote learning.

2MK have had a fun week learning about the importance of washing our hands. They used flour to show the germs and then tested cold water, warm water and water and soap to find out which way washed their hands the best. We all agreed that we should always wash our hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to remove all of the bacteria, especially before eating.
We also want to say a huge well done to all of the children in 2MK for their hard work and commitment during remote learning, we are so proud of you. We would also like to thank all of the parents for their on -going support. Have a fun but relaxing half term.

2MK have been testing different fabrics this week to help Morrison’s design new children’s clothes. They had to work together to rub the materials onto a rough surface to find out which one was the most hard wearing. They found out that denim would be the best material as it would not tear if they fell over in the park.
Well done 2MK for your excellent team work and investigation skills!

Week commencing 14th September 2020
It has been lovely to have the children back in the classroom and we are so proud of the way they have settled into 2MK and managed the changes. They have been working extremely hard and are enjoying all of the different topics we are learning about this half term.
This week in Maths we have been practising adding on a blank number line. They have also impressed us by counting up in 10s from any number so we will be moving on to adding 2-digit numbers. Have a look at our working wall and practise adding two 2-digit numbers at home.
Well done to Lennie and Kristiyan for your beautiful and accurate number lines.
Keep up the great work 2MK.
