Week Commencing 7th December 2020

On Friday the whole of year 5 did their Santa dash together. We really enjoyed dancing to the Christmas music and watching Miss Conroy struggle to run in her snowman costume!

Week Commencing 30th November 2020

This week we have helped to make the school look festive by creating our Christmas hoop and decorating the tree.

Week Commencing 23rd November 2020

In science, we have been conducting experiments to see how substances dissolve and what can affect how long it takes for a soluble material to dissolve.

Week Commencing 16th November 2020

This week year 5 imagined that they were travelling through Salvador Dali's painting called the Persistence of Memory. They have impressed me so much with their descriptive detail and use of short sentences to create suspense and pace.

Week Commencing 9th November 2020

This week we have been writing our own version of Robin Hood. We focused on short sentences, specific vocabulary and dialogue.

Week Commencing 2nd November 2020

Today the children looked at reversible and irreversible changes. The first experiment didn't go to plan as Miss Conroy burnt the chocolate that we needed to melt to show a reversible change. We had great fun filling a bottle up with vinegar and adding bicarbonate soda to a balloon. We were able to watch the balloon expand as gas was released.

Week Commencing 12th October 2020

This week, 5EC have been busy making poppies for a display in Morrisons. We have also produced some fantastic pieces of writing based on Harry Potter and worked hard to show characterisation through the dialogue.

Week Commencing 21st September 2020

In science this week, 5EC have been conducting an experiment to work out the best type of carrier bags. The children had 3 different questions to investigate. They had to ensure that the bag would be strong, wouldn't rip and that the handles wouldn't cut into their hands. They discovered that the bags for life were the best all round and the paper bags didn't last.

Week commencing 14th September 2020

Humayra shared some fantastic ideas in our modelled write during English. She then went on to write this equally fantastic story inspired by a short film in Harry Potter.
