On Friday, the children thoroughly enjoyed going to Quarry's very own funfair and participating in lots of fun games with the year 6's. They played tin can alley, pin the fin on the fish, whack a mole, bean bag toss, limbo, hook a duck, shooting hoops and pie face. The children loved earning tokens and trading them in at the end of the day for prizes. They were also busy making their own candyfloss, ice-cream and bunting as well as playing air hocky, taking pictures in our photo booth and going on a pretend roller coaster. A fun day had by all!
This week in the outside area, we have been exploring different materials and finding out which is best to use to make a boat. We tested our creations in the water area and had a race to see which boat travelled the fastest.
In Reception, we have been very excited to look after our own class caterpillars. We have watched them grow from tiny caterpillars to big, fat caterpillars where they then went into their cocoons before turning into butterflies. We were very excited on Friday to release our butterflies and watch them fly around in our garden.
This week in Literacy, we have continued to look at the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' and have explored how the plastic bag ended up in the ocean. This led us to look at pollution in the ocean, and we have been busy collecting the rubbish out of our own Tuff Tray ocean.
In Maths, we have been looking at subtracting and have been solving sums using lots of resources, including number lines.
In our garden, we have been participating in lots of physical activities and have been completing our own challenges in readiness for Sports day.
This half-term our topic is 'Splash'. The children were very excited to see that our role-play area had been transformed into an ice cream parlour. They have been serving different flavoured ice cream and wiring down their orders.
In Literacy, we have been looking at the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' and have explored different emotions, thinking about how Stanley was feeling in the story.
In Maths, we have been solving different addition sums. We have been using a range of resources, including Numicon, counting bears, tens frames and number lines to help us.
This week, we have been exploring the story of 'Tadpole's Promise'. We have been learning about the life cycle of a frog and a butterfly and have created an alternative ending to the story. We enjoyed finding out and ordering the life cycle of a frog in our water area.
In Maths, we have been comparing amounts and using 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to' symbols.
We were very interested to see that our beanstalks had grown that we planted and observed the changes.

We had a great time on our school trip to Barleylands. We were very excited to make our own pizza using produce from the farm. We enjoyed finding out about the animals that lived on the farm, feeding them and going on a tractor ride.
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their help and to the ones who joined us for the day.
This week we have been innovating the story of 'The Enormous Turnip' and changed it to the 'The Enormous Carrot'. The children have enjoyed writing their own version of the story.
In Maths, we have been looking at halving and sharing quantities equally between groups.
It was lovely to see so many parents at our Literacy live lesson. Thank you for those who attended, the children were very excited to share their work with you. We hope you found it useful.
This week we have been busy learning about Easter and why it is celebrated. We have been making our own Easter cards, creating patterns on eggs using coloured pasta, used tweezers to put chicks into their nests, reading real and fake words on carrots and made our own bunny masks. We enjoyed making our own Easter biscuits by decorating them with icing and sprinkles.
This week we were very fortunate to have a visit from the NHS Oral Healthcare nurse. We learnt about how many teeth we have, how to look after our teeth and the best time of day to brush our teeth. We were very excited to take our own toothbrush and toothpaste pack home with us. Thank you to all those who attended the parent workshop, we hope you found it useful.
This week we have been looking at the story 'Martha Maps it out' in Literacy. We have explored different maps and created out own. In Maths, we have been using positional language to describe where different objects are. We have given instructions to our friends using prepositions. We made our own 3D map to follow different instructions using the Poddely.
This week we have taken on the role of 'Explorers' and have been searching for the characters from the story of 'The Gruffalo'. We have been busy writing character descriptions about the Gruffalo and other characters from the story.
On Friday, we had a wonderful day at Thorndon Country park for our school trip. We were all really excited to see the Gruffalo and the other characters from the story. We learnt a new song 'Gruffalokey', mad a yummy snack for the Gruffalo's Child, found and hid some treats for the squirrel and played hide and seek. A fun day had by all!
This half term, our topic is 'Explorers'. The children have enjoyed playing in our role play area where they have pretended to go on different adventures and camp out in the tent. In Literacy, we have been looking at the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and the children have been using actions to retell the story. This week, we have innovated the story to create our own version.
In Maths, we have been looking at measure and have been exploring weight and capacity.
This week we were very excited to have a visit from Grays Police Station. We enjoyed meeting the policeman and finding out about his job. We listened carefully to the equipment he carries and we tried different hats and jackets on. Our favourite part was sitting in the police car.
The children were amazed when we had a visit from the firefighters. They enjoyed finding out about their job and how they help the community. The children each had a go at spraying the hose and even sat in the fire engine.
In class, the children have had fun creating their own superheroes. We have spoken about what their name would be and what superpowers they would have. The children have been busy writing about their superhero and have taken on the role of acting out the superhero they would like to be.
On Monday, the children enjoyed dressing up as who they wanted to be when they are older for our Enrichment day. They all quickly turned into police detectives to help work out who had made another mess in our classroom. After lots of investigating, the children quickly learned that the Evil Peas had escaped the jelly on Friday and we needed to come up with a better plan. The Evil Peas caused havoc in our classroom and even wrapped Miss Kerley in tissue! The children had a great plan to make jails and traps and we were relieved when we caught all of the Evil Peas and put them back in the freezer.
This week we have had an unexpected visitor who has destroyed our classroom. The children were quick to work out that the Evil Pea had been causing a mess and was on the loose. We received a letter from Supertato asking the children to help capture the pea. The children wrote their own letter back to Supertato and made their own traps and jails to catch the Evil Pea. We were all relieved when our plan worked to trap the Evil Pea back in the jelly.
On Friday we celebrated Cultural Day. The children came to school dressed in their traditional clothes. The children loved talking about their clothing and some of the things they do in their own culture.
We explored the story 'Handa's Surprise' and acted out the story using masks and fruit props. We even tasted some of the fruits from the story during snack time.
We learnt about lots of different countries and enjoyed making own boomerangs, flags rangoli patterns, lanterns and Chinese dragons.
We were fascinated to find out all about Native America and listened well to Miss Kerley speak about some of the traditions. We were interested in the artifacts that shared with us.
This week we have carried on exploring our topic 'People who Help Us' and have been looking firefighters and their role in the community. We have pretended to put our fires using water spray bottles to support with our fine motor skills, writing about firefighters and their job and creating our own fire engines using junk modelling. The children have loved taking on the role of a firefighter.

We have been enjoying our last week in school before the New Year. The children have enjoyed making snowflake soup, Christmas cards, salt dough ornaments, Christmas hats and creating patterns on stockings and wrapping paper.
We have also had fun at our own Christmas party, disco and participating in our Santa dash. We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
This week we have enjoyed taking on the role of Santa in our outside area and pretending to be the reindeers pulling Santa's sleigh. We have been busy making our own Christmas crowns, making snowman's and painting our own snowflake pictures. Thank you for all the parents who came to watch the children in their Christmas performance, the children were amazing! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
This week the children have enjoyed finding ice in our outside area. We have explored how ice is formed and how it melts. The children loved making their own pretend ice rink to create their own stories.
On Friday we enjoyed our Cinderella Enrichment Day. The children loved dressing up and enjoyed making their own crowns and carriages, building their own castle, creating their own wands and using the china tea set to have their own tea party. The children made their own chocolate mice. In the afternoon, the children enjoyed learning ballroom dancing and making their own sandwiches for a real tea party. A fun day had by all!
On Friday, we visited Grays Library where we met Meg the librarian. We enjoyed listening to a story and having a look at the different books. Thank you to all the parents that attended.
The children have came back very well after half term and have setteld in. We have been very proud of them all!
This week we have enjoyed learning and retelling the story of 'The Little Red Hen'. We have acted out the story and used props on the stage outside to help us. In Maths we have been comparing amounts and using the language 'more' and 'fewer'.
This week we have continued to look at the story 'Funnybones' in Literacy. We have been labelling our body parts and making our very own skeleton pictures.
In Maths we have enjoyed going on a shape hunt and finding 2D shapes with our classroom.

In Maths the children have been looking at composition of numbers to 10. We have explored different ways of making the numbers using Numicon.

We have been amazed by the wonderful writing the children have been creating. In Maths, we have been looking at tens frames and representing the numbers in different ways.

In Maths, we have been looking at the number 5 and have used the conkers and leaves to help us count. We have really enjoyed making our own car wash in the outside area and taking turns to use the bikes and scooters.
We have enjoyed another fun week in reception finding out about each other's interests. We have enjoyed acting out our own dinosaur stories and sharing our knowledge with each other. We have explored our emotions and have been using the playdough to create faces that express different feelings.
This week we have been creating our own self-portraits. We have been looking at what we look like to create a representation of ourselves. In literacy, we have been looking at the story 'What Makes Me a Me' and have been looking at similarities and differences about ourselves.
We are very proud of Reception for completing their first week at school. They have settled very well and have been getting to know each other, forming special friendships. The children have been busy making their own listening ears this week so they can go on a listening walk and listen carefully to familiar sounds. In Maths, we have been looking at numbers and counting objects.
