Week commencing 7th July 2025!

This week in Nursery the children are reading the book 'What the Ladybird heard at the Seaside'. They have been making items they would take and use at the beach. Following instructions the children used paper plates and paint to make their own ladybird. On our maths table the children looked at ladybirds and their spots. They had to recognise how many spots the ladybird had and find the correct number, they then had to place the same number of spots on the opposite side and count how many spots the ladybird had altogether. In our garden area the children enjoyed using water paint and pipettes on cotton pads to create their own colourful ice-cream, where they talked about their favourite flavour ice-cream and toppings.

Week commencing 30th June 2025!

This week the children continued to explore activities around our topic book 'Snail and the Whale'. They enjoyed clingfilm painting, creating scenes from the book. They enjoyed exploring the small world and sensory tuff tray.  The children had fun using playdough to create their own shells and also used the shells to print marks into the playdough. On our arts and crafts table, the children used different shapes of red, black and blue paper to make a fire truck to save the whale. 

To end the week the children enjoyed dressing up and participating in their beach themed enrichment day. They enjoyed sharing their day with Preschool and getting involved in many exciting activities. They each helped a member of staff to make cheese and jam sandwiches to enjoy at snack time along with many fruits and an ice poles.  They painted their own maps and walked the plank. The children enjoyed dancing and making ice creams from cloud dough in the ice cream parlour.

Week commencing 23rd June 2025!

This week in Nursery the children have started a new book 'The Snail and the Whale'.  We have been discussing ways to travel, where we would like to go on holiday, what we would do when we are there and who we would like to take. They have designed and made boats for the snail's journey. They have followed the snail around on his journey recognising numbers and filling in the next number, as well as colour by number. The children have enjoyed using paints on cling film and painting different animals from the book. During carpet time we used the interactive board for counting sea creatures and recognising the correct number.

To end the week the children have had an enjoyable pyjama reading day.

Week commencing 16th June 2025!

This week in Nursery the children continued to read the book 'Rainbow Fish'. The children enjoyed many activities, such as decorating their own fish using paper plates, paints and their fingers. They practised their fine motor skills, cutting out different sizes of fish. On our writing table, the children coloured a rainbow fish, told the staff why they are good friends and then practised their writing by copying what we had written.  The children have been recognising numbers, adding two small numbers together and practising writing them.

Week commencing 9th June 2025!

This term our topic is 'Fun at the Seaside'. The book we have been reading this week is 'Rainbow Fish'. During carpet time we discussed what makes a good friend, showing kindness and sharing. The children have made their own rainbow fish by drawing around their hand to create the fish, then using different coloured materials to decorate them. They practised their fine motor skills, using tweezers to pick up the fish. They then recognised the pattern on the fish and matched it to the correct pattern on the plates. The children have practised writing their sounds and copying some of the words from the book. They have also enjoyed using celery and paint to create the scales on their fish.

Week commencing 12th May 2025!

This week in Nursery, the children enjoyed reading the book "Owl Babies." We discussed different emotions and how we feel. The children then drew their own emotions on their faces and explained why they had chosen that emotion. The children explored a tuff tray full of natural materials to make nests for the owls. Using their fine motor skills, they used playdough to create three different-sized owls and used a fork to create patterns for their wings/fur. Some of the children also had fun drawing their families and telling us what makes them happy.

Week commencing 5th May 2025!

This week in Nursery, the children continued to read the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. During carpet time we looked at and discussed the life cycle of a butterfly. We have explored the garden, looking at and collecting different materials and talking about what they can see and find. The children had fun in the garden, working together to make obstacle courses and experimenting with the guttering to make tunnel runs to be able to pour and collect water. They have also been making 'The very Hungry Caterpillar' hats and using playdough to copy letters and words.

Week commencing 7th April 2025!

This week in Nursery the children have enjoyed doing lots of Easter activities. They have been making chocolate corn flake nests, cotton bud and finger painting easter drawings, designing easter eggs and counting and recognising the amount of easter objects.

Some of the children also took part in helping to plant some seeds for next terms 'Growing and changing'  topic.

The children have had fun taking part in an easter egg hunt and meeting the easter bunny.

Week commencing 31st March 2025!

This week in Nursery the children have continued to read the book 'Dear Zoo'. On our Literacy table they have enjoyed doing alphabet dot to dot and sequencing the animals from the book. On our maths table we have been counting animals, recognising the correct number and practising writing the numbers. The children have been role playing and using their imagination pretending to be vets and looking after different animals.

During the week the children had a visit from the Oral Healthcare Nurse, learning about how and when to brush their teeth and discussing healthy and non healthy food.

Week commencing 24th March 2025!

This week in Nursery our new reading book is 'Dear Zoo'. The children have enjoyed many activities such as recognising the sizes of animals, which animal is the biggest/smallest? They then choose animals to weigh, said which was the heaviest and then tried to make the scales equal. They then counted the number of animals they had in total. The children have been making animals, zookeepers and animal enclosures, using different materials.  During outside choosing the children re told the story 'Dear Zoo' using props from the book and matching the animal to the correct crates.

Week Commencing 17th March 2025

This week in Nursery the children have continued to read the book 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. At carpet time, we have been discussing about different animals and the patterns they have on their body. The children have enjoyed talking about their own pets and some children showing them during our Tapestry Thursday session. They have enjoyed many activities such as tiger symmetry painting, tiger eye spy where they counted different tigers and practised writing the number. The children have had fun exploring the jungle train track and looking for the animals whilst their train travels around the jungle. 

Week commencing 3rd March 2025!

This week in Nursery the children have continued to read the book 'Rumble In The Jungle'. The children have enjoyed making parrots from different coloured paper and feathers. They have been practising their sounds using playdough to make them and have explored a jungle themed tuff tray. The children have talked about different colours, textures, patterns and smells that they could see and feel in the tuff tray. The children have also had fun making their own repeating pattern snake, threading coloured pasta onto laces.

Week commencing 24th February 2025!

This week in Nursery we have been reading 'Rumble in the Jungle'. The children have been colouring and cutting out animal masks and using card and a variety of materials to make their own animals. They have had fun working together to complete jungle puzzles and making repeating patterns using linking elephants. 

The children designed postcards by drawing their chosen animal and tracing/writing their names on the back. They have also incorporated mark making and shapes by drawing their own animals out of 2D shapes on whiteboards. 

Week commencing 10th February 2025!

This week the children have continued to explore the book 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. They have enjoyed mixing paints to make brown and using paper plates to make their bear masks. They have matched the three bears and their objects and talked about what makes goldilocks happy and sad. The children have continued to explore and recognise colours, shapes and numbers.

Week commencing 3rd February 2025!

This week the children have been reading the book 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. They have enjoyed making their own paw prints using paints, sponges, hands and fingers. Also they have explored symmetry painting. Building Goldilocks her own house, chair and bed using wooden blocks.

The children have had fun playing with porridge, putting it in different sized bowls and matching the characters from the book to their bowls. They have also really enjoyed our literacy table, practising writing all the sounds they have learnt, their names and lots of different words from our book of the week.

Also, this week the children have enjoyed a visit from the firefighters. They got to look at all the exciting equipment that they use and were able to sit inside the fire engine.

Week commencing 27th January 2025!

This week in Nursery the children have continued reading the book 'The Gingerbread Man'. They have used different shapes of paper to make their own fox and gingerbread man. The children have also enjoyed looking at and predicting how different materials float and sink. They then made their own boats for their gingerbread man to cross the river. On our maths table we explored colour by number and during the week the children have taken part in a gingerbread man yoga session.

Week commencing 20th January 2025!

This week Nursery are continuing to read the book 'The Gingerbread Man'. They have enjoyed making gingerbread playdough, discussing the smell, colour and texture. On our maths table we have been recognising numbers and placing the correct amount of lids for that number. The children also celebrated Culture Day, making shakers, designing their own Mehndi patterns and listening to lots of different music.

This week the children have also enjoyed a visit from the library. They have listened to stories joined in with the actions and learnt about the library.

Week commencing 13th January 2025!

This week Nursery have continued to read the book 'The Three Little Pigs'. They have enjoyed making different types of pigs and wolves using lots of different coloured, textured materials. They have been packing the pigs suitcase on the maths table. Recognising the numbers and placing the correct amount of items into the suitcase. The children have had lots of fun using the playdough to make the pigs faces and their emotions. On the literacy table the children worked hard to sequence our story of the week using pictures from the book.

Week commencing 6th January 2025!

This term our topic is 'Once Upon A Time'. Our book for this week is 'The Three Little Pigs'. The children have enjoyed lots of fun activities such as building the pigs houses from different materials, talking about what they can see, what textures they can feel and predicting which house will stay standing. The children have been using their fine motor skills making colourful tails for the pigs by threading beads onto pipe cleaners, counting how many beads they have used and also using repeating patterns. On our literacy table the children have been practising their letter formation by copying the letters wrote on the table. 

Week commencing 16th December 2024!

This week in Nursery the children have continued to enjoy festive activities. They have been decorating biscuits using Christmas coloured icing and sprinkles and have also enjoyed making saltdough Christmas tree decorations. On our literacy table the children have been making snowman names and writing their letters to Santa. 

We also had our Christmas party where the children enjoyed lots of party games, music and dancing. 

Week commencing 9th December 2024!

This week in Nursery the children have continued to read the book 'I Don't Want To Go To Hospital'. They have enjoyed using the Duplo to build their very own Hospital,  made their own x-rays using cotton buds and have been in the role play area pretending to be Doctors. On our Literacy table the children have been practising their phonics by placing the correct objects on the initial sounds and using sticky letters to copy the word sheets. This week the children have also enjoyed lots of festive activities including finding our naughty elves, Christmas cards and handprint reindeers. 

Week commencing 2nd December 2024!

This week we have been getting into the festive spirit and have been busy decorating our classroom. We have been making paper chains and wrapping presents in Santa's Workshop.  

The children were surprised to have a visit from the our class elf and enjoy seeing what mischief he gets up to each day.

Week commencing 25th November 2024!

The children have continued to read the book 'Guess How Much I love You'. They have enjoyed making hearts with long arms to give to someone they love.  Autumn leaves tissue paper and cotton bud painting and matching the tools to the correct outlines on the table. The children have continued to practise their pencil control by tracing over numbers 0-10 on our maths table and copying words from our book on the literacy table. The children have also been practising their table setting skills in our home corner.

Week commencing 18th November 2024!

This week in Nursery the children have been reading the book 'Guess How Much I Love You'. During carpet time we have been talking about feelings and the children have been sharing what makes them happy, sad, excited and angry and have also been showing their facial expressions for these feelings.  During the week the children have measured different sized arms drawn on the table using multi-link cubes and then counting how many they needed.  They have enjoyed making 'Nut Brown Hare's' ears and rolling out the playdough to make love hearts. On our maths table the children have been learning colours and sizes using the compare bears. The children have also enjoyed a very colourful sensory tuff tray exploring different materials, textures and colours.

Week commencing 4th November 2024!

This week in Nursery we have started our new topic, People who help us and the children have enjoyed doing some activities for fireworks night. We used cardboard tubes to create fireworks paintings and being imaginative by making fireworks from 2D shapes. The children used different shaped coloured paper to make their own fire engines and decorated a large scale police car using different materials. We practised number recognition and colours by counting certain coloured fireworks and finding the correct number.
